Wrestling signs two to National Letters of Intent
Signees have 5 state championships between them
EAST LANSING, MI, 11/19/08 - The Michigan State University wrestling
program and head coach Tom Minkel have received National Letters of
Intent from two outstanding wrestlers. Signing to wrestle for the green
and white are Josh Harper (Mishawaka, IN) and Dan Osterman (St. Johns,
MI).
These two student-athletes have accumulated 5 individual state
championships between them and both carry over a 3.4 grade point
average.
Josh Harper from Mishawaka High School enters his senior season with a
141-1 career record. He is a 3-time Indiana State Champion and enters
the season looking to go undefeated in his final two years of high
school competition. Should he do that he will become only the eighth
four-time state champion in the state of Indiana. Harper will wrestle
for the Spartans at 133 pounds.
Dan Osterman from St. Johns High School enters his senior season with a
career record of 160-7 and is coming off of an undefeated 52-0 junior
year. Osterman is a 3-time Michigan state finalist and a two-time State
Champion. He also placed 3rd at the 2008 USA Folkstyle National
Championships and will compete for Michigan State at 133 or 141 pounds.
“We are very pleased and excited to have these outstanding young men
join our program.” Minkel said. “They are both very successful on the
mat and in the classroom. We are looking forward to their arrival in
East Lansing and believe they will have an immediate impact on our
program.”
