Coach Tom Minkel signs three year contract extension

Minkel signs for years 19-21 in his tenure

EAST LANSING, MI, 7/18/09 - Eighteen year head coach of the Michigan State wrestling program, Tom Minkel, has signed a three-year contract extension with Michigan State taking him through the 2011-12 season. 

Minkel, who began coaching at MSU in 1991 after two years as the head coach at Central Michigan University, has produced 33 NCAA All-Americans and two NCAA Champions.  The most recent NCAA Champion is Spartan junior Franklin Gomez, this year's NCAA Champion at 133 pounds.
