Freshman Dan Osterman wins the 133 lb. title in his
first college tournament
YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Michigan State wrestling team opened the 2009-10
season on Saturday (Nov. 7) at the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti.
The meet was an unattached event for the Spartans and not part of their
16 official dates of competitions.
In his first collegiate meet, freshman Dan Osterman, wrestling at 133
pounds, took first in the freshman/sophomore division. Osterman defeated
Corey Duncan with a 14-6 decision to claim the title.
Fellow freshman Mike McClure also had a nice run in the
freshman/sophomore division, placing second.
In the open division, senior Nick Palmieri led MSU with a second-place
finish at 184 pounds. At 165 pounds, senior Kyle Bounds took third place
while junior Ben Boudro took sixth.
After falling in a hard fought, double overtime bout of the 141-pound
open division semifinals, Collin Dozier went on to take sixth place.
Sophomore Ian Hinton placed fifth in the 175-pound open division while
Tyler Dickenson took third at 197 in the open division.
The Spartans will host the MSU Open next Sunday (Nov. 15) at Jenison
Field House.
